Everyone likes a good story whether they read it from a book or see the story being played out in a film. We grow up hearing fairy stories that have been told to small children for generations. No one really knows who the author was who first wrote these stories and many have been altered from the original version. Fairy tales such as Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Bears and the Sleeping Beauty are all still being told to children as well as being made into films. Many of the famous fairy tales have originated in other countries such as Germany and a lot of people are interested in studying these stories in their original language. To do this they need to attend a language school (Sprachschule) for tuition otherwise communication abroad will be very difficult. Courses are available in many languages and learning German (Deutsch Lernen) as a second language is very popular. This enables a student not only to speak the language in Germany but also in Austria, Poland and Holland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holland.

Children do not read books as often as they did because it is easier to watch the television. Before people had televisions children used to read more and play outside with their friends much more. Today they are more likely to be sat on the settee watching the television. Years ago children had to amuse themselves as nobody had a television. Not only televisions, but videos, DVD’s and computer games have all stopped children from reading books. Some children get very little exercise because they are sitting around too much and not using up any energy. Some teenagers are leaving school not able to read or even write properly. Books have changed a lot these days and it is not easy for authors to write something that will be a success. Harry Potter books were an instant success and queues formed outside bookshops days before the new editions went on sale. Not only in England but all over the world these books captured the imagination of young and old alike. They were printed in many languages and most of the books have now been made into films. Children that had not read a book in months suddenly stopped watching the television and started reading a Harry Potter book.

We all like to read a good book. Some people like to read a good thriller, others like books on gardening, cookery, DIY books or love stories. All kind of books can be found at the local library where there is something that will be of interest to most people
