Title IX Win in Mansourian v. UC Davis!

Posted At : August 4, 2011 9:31 PM

According to attorney Noreen Farrell, the Court found in favor for the Title IX claim against the University, but let the individual UC officials off the hook for the constitutional claim.  The Court was not supportive of the women wrestlers, but could not avoid the clear facts of the case showing a program-wide Title IX violation when they were students.

Farrell extends heartfelt thanks to AAUW for our support in this case.

Tech Trek Made the TV News!

Posted At : August 1, 2011 8:57 PM

Two Tech Trek camps, Irvine and Stanford Hopper, were featured on the national CBS News recently. While the narrator neglected to mention the AAUW CA connection, plenty of viewers found their way to the Tech Trek website (www.aauw-techtrek.org) for information about our science and math camps and, in one happy case, to download the Donation Form. The video can be watched  from that site too.

Camp directors Amy Harbin, Jan Cook and Marie Wolbach worked with the video team and, in the case of Irvine, allowed them to film the girls in class and on a field trip. CBS looked for science camps for girls after three young women won the top three spots in the recent, first-ever, Google International Science Fair.

Fallbrook Celebrates 65th Anniversary!

Posted At : June 25, 2011 9:54 AM

AAUW Fallbrook celebrated its 65th Anniversary on June 23. Thirty-five members attended a luncheon to honor the branch, which began with twelve members in 1946.

Donna Lilly, State College/University Liaison and former state co- President, installed new officers. Draped in a scarf of the American flag, Donna spoke of Betsy Ross and compared her power and determination to women of our time. She recognized new board members, as well as all members, for the branch's vibrant history and current achievements.

Congratulations, Fallbrook!
